Demand Response in Europe – Contributions to power markets by 2030

The event featured targeted interventions from the European Commission, ACER, energy think tanks, large energy consumers from industry and digital services, renewable energy associations and demand-response aggregators. The purpose was to highlight key implementation priorities in 2026 with a view to meeting 2030 targets.

In terms of physics, having DR participate in wholesale electricity markets is necessary to ensure it matches the needs of flexibility entailed by a wide use of renewables: you need GWs of DR to balance the intermittency of GWs of renewables.

With 100 participants from 22 countries, after keynote from CEER and introduction by DGENER, this event focused on:
1. Policy discussion based on the Clean Energy Package and the results of a study quantifying the Benefits of Demand Response
2. Practical experiences of Demand Response from:
– Large consumers in Finland with Väre & Sympower
– Residential consumers in France with ekWateur & Voltalis
